 Abstract

A field experiment was conducted at experimental farm, Faculty of Agriculture, Annamalai University to study the dynamics of nitrogen by the combined use of organic compost and inorganic fertilizer nitrogen on nutrient uptake and post harvest soil fertility status in cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.). The soil of the experiment farm is deep clay, low in available nitrogen, medium in available phosphorus and high in available potassium. The experiment was conducted in randomized block design and replicated thrice. The experiment comprised of eight treatments, which includes absolute control (No fertilizer and no organic manure), recommended dose of nitrogen alone and graded dose of fertilizer nitrogen along with different organic manures viz., farmyard manure, pressmud compost, vermicompost, poultry manure, water hyacinth compost and sugar cane trash compost. Use of different sources and combination sources of nitrogen had significant influence on seed cotton and stalk yields of cotton, NPK uptake and post harvest soil nutrient status. The results of the experiment showed that 75% N through fertilizer along with 25 % N through vermicompost significantly recorded maximum seed cotton and stalk yields of cotton over other organic manures in combination with inorganic fertilizer, which was followed by 75% N through fertilizer along with 25 % N through pressmud compost. As per nitrogen use efficiency, plots received with 75% N through fertilizer along with 25 % N through vermicompost registered superior values of agronomic efficiency and apparent nitrogen recovery (%). Significantly lowest values for seed cotton, stalk yields, NPK uptake and post harvest soil available NPK was recorded in control (No fertilizer and no organic manure). Based on the above results, it could be concluded that 75% N through fertilizer along with 25%N through vermicompost will be more promising combination which resulted in higher yield of seed cotton and maintain good soil fertility.

 Abstract

Field experiment was conducted at the experimental farm, Department of Agronomy, Annamalai University to study the productivity and economics of sunflower in response to different vermicompost from various organic sources under Cauvery delta region of Tamil Nadu.. The experiment with ten treatment combinations were laidout in randomized block design and replicated thrice. The ten treatment includes absolute control, recommended dose of fertilizer alone and graded dose of fertilizer nitrogen along with different organic composts and vermicompost. All the treatments exerted significant influence on growth and yield attributes and oil content of sunflower over the control. Application of 75% recommended dose nitrogen (RDN) + pressmud vermicompost @ 2.5 t ha-1 significantly recorded the higher plant height (169.80 cm), leaf area index (4.80 ) seed yield ( 1825.77 kg ha-1 ) oil content (40.47%) and oil yield (738.89 kg ha-1). Recommended dose Nitrogen (50 kg N) alone recorded lower seed yield , oil content and oil yield among the treatment combinations. However it was significantly higher than control (no fertilizer and no organic manure). The next in order of ranking was 75% RDN + sewage sludge vermicompost @ 2.5 t ha-1. The benefit cost ratio (2.99) was also found to be higher with 75% RDN + pressmud vermicompost @ 2.5 t ha-1.

 Abstract

Abstract: Socio-economic status is the foremost issue in the contemporary world, especially in the developing world. The study of Socio-economic status, try to explain the actual situation of population in particular region but the study of Socio-economic status found very rare at micro level such as village and ward level. This present study is based on primary data which have been collected by door to door survey with a suitable questionnaire by the researchers. All the data have been classified into different groups and simple percentage method is followed to analyse the actual situation. In the study area, 47.47% population’s are of Muslim community and 52.53% are of Hindu community. 70% family live in pucca houses and 30% live in Kaccha houses. Electricity is available in 95.3% of the houses. The survey revealed that 87.3% household of the village use tubewell as the source of drinking water and other 12.7% use running water. Only 24.7% households use sanitary latrine for defication. The monthly income of 80% household is less than Rs.10,000/-, 10% earned between Rs.10,000/- to 20,000/-, 6.7% earned Rs.20,000/- to 30,000/- and only 3.3% is reported to earned above Rs. 30,000/-. Most of the population of the village is labour class.

 Abstract

Children’s literature is fundamentally important for language development. Not only do children benefit from reading themselves, but their language skills also develop substantially when listening to another read. Literature influences children’s language development primarily by providing a model for reading, writing and speaking. Through the provision of an outlet for engaged learning, children are given the opportunity to expand their language skills in an imaginative and creative way. This comparative study is conducted to know the impact of children’s literature on students who are studying at the secondary level school. So that we could find the how children’s literature may be helpful in improving language skills and also what improvements are need to develop good children’s literature in the context of language skill development through children’s literature.
