 Abstract

India is endowed with a rich biological heritage. It has more than 53 million tribal people under 300 tribal communities, constituting about 8% of the total population of the country. The tribal knowledge regarding the uses of plants for various purposes indicates their general awareness and intimate dependence on the surrounding. The revelance of local herbal health traditions have not diminished despite the gaint strides made in the field of modern medicine. The most surprising fact is that, even today,75%of the world population belonging to developing countries are still dependent on traditional medicine for their care. Anatagiri Forest constitutes an important, non-renewable living resource. So there ia an urgent need to protect the rich biological diversity and hertige of anatagiri forest.Proper measures must be taken by the government to utilize the rich resources which it has without harming the environment. The present study is aimed at knowing about the rich medicinal plants present in and around Ananthagiri hills used by local herbalists and village folklore to cure various human ailments. The major families which occupied first and second position were Mimosaceae-12sp Euphorbiaceae-9sp, and all 149 plant species belonging to 57 families were documented and authentically identified.

 Abstract

The practice of Micro finance was and has been observed India for the last so many years may be two decades or so. The inspiration was mainly drawn from Prof Muhammed Yunus, who is considered to be the brain child of micro credit and micro finance and the founder of the Grameen Bank, Bangladesh. The Grameen model has been replicated almost all over the world. But then there is one serious concern that needs to be attended to, that is the over indebtedness of the micro finance clients and also the transparency and the client protection part. Micro Finance can be considered as a developmental instrument for inclusive growth as it mainly caters to those who are at the bottom of the pyramid. Micro finance has been championed by many institutions such as Banks, NGOs, SHGs, JLGs, Churches in the North East India etc in the country. The central bank of India, the RBI and NABARD have been playing a very instrumental role in spreading and promoting the self help groups (SHGs) and linkage of SHGs to the banking system through refinance support and other initiative measures of proactive policies and systems. This initiative in fact has become an important component in the poverty reduction strategy. Under the umbrella of micro finance activities, there has also been promotion of micro and small enterprises development. This article attempts to discuss on the over indebtedness, the flip side of the Micro Finance, which may also be considered as one aspect to building a self sufficient Micro Finance Institution.

 Abstract

The Mangroves form a very unique ecosystem characterized by a range of features displayed by this dominant vegetation of the subtropical and tropical areas, found in the tidal and intertidal regions of several countries of the world. Mangroves play the roles of providers, protectors and processors at the same time. They are rich in terms of food resources; they can withstand the furies of nature in terms of velocity of winds and storms as well as act as filters in polluted environments. They have an exceptionally high potential for carbon dioxide sequestration. The challenges of climate change are real and will need a combination of interventions in which mangroves have the potential to give a greater return on investment than many other efforts. It is a rich natural renewable resource but unfortunately mangrove areas are rapidly declining due to coastal development, logging, tourism, aquaculture, overexploitation due to foraging and most of all due to ignorance of the dearth of benefits they can offer humankind. Conservation of should be taught early through formal and informal forms of education.
