Operationalization of data security in scale Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) environments has grown very important in the current cloud-native architecture. With ever-growing and expanding SaaS products serving millions of users residing in globally dispersed, multi-tenant environments, the problem of integrating consistent, real-time and context-sensitive security provision grows. Traditional perimeter-based schemes are inadequate to protect dynamic environments, described by microservices, serverless functions and third party integrations. As such, emerging security paradigms are growing in order to ensure enforcement of data protection policies on the same level as components that are embedded into the application lifecycle and infrastructure. In this review, you will examine the important trends in operational security of SaaS operations, including automated policy enforcement, tenant-isolated encryption, federated identification and access management (IAM), and runtime threat detection. The discourse incorporates architectural patterns in support of security-by-design practices and evaluating the maturity of tools that enable deployment of compliance, observability and resilience pipelines.
